A 60-year-old man was killed and his wife seriously injured when their motorcycle collided with a lorry that made an illegal turn on Jalan Ipoh–Lumut, near Ipoh, Malaysia.

The fatal crash occurred around 3 p.m. when the lorry — a Hino driven by a 23-year-old man — abruptly turned left after passing a traffic light. The sudden maneuver left the motorcycle unable to avoid hitting the lorry’s left side.

The rider, identified as Ahmad Taufik Abu Bakar (60), died at the scene. His wife, 61-year-old Azizah Mat Jamat, sustained a fractured left leg and was taken to hospital for treatment.

Police noted that the motorcycle lacked valid road tax and its insurance had expired. The lorry driver has been detained to assist with the investigation under the Road Transport Act 1987.

A dash-cam video circulating on social media appears to show the lorry signaling right before turning left, moments before the crash.

Authorities have launched a formal investigation into the incident.
