Animals had reportedly bitten three other people earlier the same day, and police have opened an investigation into the case.
A woman was brutally attacked by two pit bull dogs on Rua Silva Neto in Realengo, West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, on Friday morning. Security camera footage captured the moment the victim, standing on the sidewalk, was suddenly attacked by the animals. Witnesses stated that three other people were also bitten by the same dogs that day.
Residents said the dogs belong to a local woman known for allowing her animals to roam freely in the streets without leashes or muzzles. According to accounts, the owner neither assisted the victims nor accepted responsibility for the attacks.
The situation has raised alarm among locals, especially given the proximity of the Laura Mattos Municipal School, where dozens of children pass daily. “We live in fear; a major tragedy could happen at any moment,” one resident said.
In a statement, the Civil Police reported that the incident was registered at the 33rd Police Precinct (Realengo). Investigators are currently working to gather witness statements and clarify the circumstances surrounding the attacks. The dogs remain in the custody of their owner pending further action by the authorities.
